Who we are

Abbas Rest Orphans, a registered Scottish Charity (no: SC 033166), was started in March 2001 by Peter and Kirsi Poole to help orphans in the provincial towns of Chiringa and Muona in Malawi, Central Africa.
Those orphans are not reached by any other Charity Organisation, and Kirsi and Peter have witnessed their suffering on their trips to Malawi.
Abbas Rest Orphans runs totally by donations from the public. All the proceeds go straight to the orphans and the clothes, toys and stationery are either taken over to Malawi or in the past have been shipped over with the help of The Raven Trust. We have found we can acquire most things now in Malawi itself which keeps the costs down.
Peter and Kirsi Poole, Charlie McGill our ARO planning & projects manager. Richard and Eleanor Willis. all visit Malawi on a regular basis, overseeing advancement of Abbas Rest Orphans in all areas and give encouragement to the local staff. Richard is our practical skills instructor and Eleanor has a background in nursing, midwifery and health visiting.
Volunteers from all walks of life work with the ARO in Malawi. They originate from the UK and Finland mostly and are very welcome at our centres.
Our main office is in Scotland, where all Abbas Rest is coordinated from and is run by Eleanor our liaison volunteer.
Jim Walsham is our PO Box man and answers general mail
Our main volunteer in Finland is Raimo Lehtinen who is in charge of the Finnish side of Abbas Rest Orphans.
