Abbas Rest Orphans

 

ARO-Chiringa Orphan Centre. (photo above)
Chiringa is a small town accessible by a poor road, (which is in the process of upgrading over the next two and a half years) at the foothills of Mount Mulanje by the southeast border to Mozambique.  This ARO-Orphan Centre consists of five buildings, garage workshop,toilets and showers for boys, toilets and showers for girls and water tower, in a walled compound with some acres of land.  112 orphans are being fed and looked after from this centre, though most live in their villages with grandparents.  The manager of the ARO-Chiringa orphan centre is William Edwin who supervises  the work done by  workers and  volunteers.  An ARO-Afternoon School is kept on the premises. Motor mechanics is taught to the older boys, with also a carpenters workshop and knitting and sewing workshop, both are used to teach the children skills. Also there is a baby milk program and porridge program for toddlers for those in desperate need.



ARO-Muona Orphan Centre
This centre, serving and feeding 109 orphans, is situated in the Shire River Valley in the South of Malawi. The ARO-Muona Orphan Centre, standing on the hill over looking the river Shire, was completed in August 2004 and an outbuilding for goats was added in September 2004.  The property has water source now and has 6 acres of land around it for cultivating in the future. there are shower and toilet facilities for boys and girls.  An ARO-afternoon school is kept on the premises. there is a tailoring workshop with a tailor teaching the children to make clothes.  all the children received clothes educational supplies, blankets and mats in June 2009. the centre has a new manager Harry Zambezi.



Sub-Stations

  • Beka:

Beka sub-station is serving 21 orphans in Beka village (17 km west of Ngabu) and near the south western border of Mozambique.  The volunteer workforce sees to the distribution of maize with the supervision of William Edwin our main manager in Malawi. Volunteer helpers run a school for the children. The children all received supplies,clothes, mats and blankets in May 2009

  • Namba:

Namba sub-station is serving 19 orphans in Namba village 12km North of Chiringa. Here  the workforce are volunteers who run the ARO school.These children have received educational supplies,clothes, mats and blankets in June 2009.

  • Nkhulambe:

This ARO Sub-Station is in a village 21.5Km South East of Chiringa, by the Mozambique border. This sub station is now closed and the children  still on the programme have been distributed to other stations.

  • Masenjere

Masenjere village lies 10Km north of Muona.  There are 15 orphans there now who are being fed and looked after by ARO.  These children all got new school uniforms in July 2009 plus mats, other supplies and blankets.

  • Kandodo Sub-Station.

Kandodo is a hamlet approximate 5 Km  from the Muona Orphan Centre. 15 very needy children are now in the feeding programme in July 2009. Extra school supplies, clothes, mats and blankets supplied in July 2009

  • Ntepa Sub-Station incorporating Mauzi village.

The villages lies some 8 and 11Km north of Chiringa, with a lot of desperately poor orphans who weren’t receiving any help whatsoever. 16 children from Ntepa and 8 children from Mauzi are now on the ARO feeding programme in July 2009. Extra supplies including mats, clothes and blankets were given to the children in July 2009

  • Khokhwa.

The village lies 20Km West of Ngabu in Southern Malawi, and 15 orphans here were added for the ARO feeding programme in November 2005. All were given extra clothes, mats and blankets with educational supplies as well in 2009

  • Osiyana.

Osiyana is about 17 Km from Muona. It is set in beautiful countryside and remote. and there are 12 children on the ARO feeding  programme these children were also given extra educational supplies, blankets, mat and school uniforms in June2009

  • Namilembe

Namilembe is about 20 Km  from Muona centre, and caters for 22 children, and like Osiyana is very remote  the children are all visited regularly and are well cared for. These also received extra clothes, mats. blankets and educational supplies in June 2009.

  • Ngabu

this small centre catered for five children and also monitored Beka and Khockhwa. this centre is now closed for the foreseeable future and the children moved to other centres for their welfare.

  • Chitawo

New-- The sub station is about 2 Km from Chiringa and was opened March 2010. 13 children from this area have been taken into Abbas program and all have been given clothes, mat and blankets for their homes.
