The men work in the cities whilst their families
try to survive in remote and inaccessible villages in the countryside. When
visiting home men bring a sinister ‘gift’ from the cities to their wives,
the AIDS virus.
The wives have no means of protecting themselves from this deadly illness.
As a result even the remotest areas have a rapidly growing number of
orphans, whose only support are either elderly grandparents or distant
relatives if they are fortunate, or no one if they’re not.

In the year 2001 the average life expectancy of a Malawian has dropped to 37
years!
